Mishi Apparel started as a Mom and Pop shop. Hamish thought there just might be a market for soft cotton clothing with subtle color added. Hamish and Michelle bought fabric and dyed using their residential washer and dryer. Michelle came up with designs for comfortable, perfect for travel styled clothing and a company was in the making.

Mishi apparel was headquartered in downtown Petaluma but quickly outgrowing the size of the building. Boxes upon boxes of clothing blocked the already narrow aisles. The design department didn't have enough layout space, the shipping department were cramped and didn't have room to expand. All in all everyone climbed over one another! It was time to make a move.

Hamish met architect Colleen Mahoney in a local Chamber of Commerce Leadership program for business owners. From the outset they had great respect for one another's business successes. Hamish chose Colleen to help him to move most of his company to a new headquarters location nearby.

The new facilities were to have a fun contemporary feel. The warehouse space had high trussed ceilings and old wood flooring. New spaces were created for the design department and adjacent external production department. A large space was designated for the processing and shipping departments where the high warehouse style shelving holds all of the merchandise ready to be shipped across the country. Sales staff, marketing and accounting departments, and meerting rooms were all fit into the 14, 500 square foot space.

Hamish is particularly pleased with his new CEO corner office and adjacent conference room which overlook the Petaluma River where he can watch the sailboats, and barges, and tug boats and even kayaks go up and down the lazy river.
