Nantucket in California
"We would like a new home with the character and charm
of a Nantucket home" said Jim and Cindy Helfrich. But this
home is on the water in Marin County and was to have a California
feel as well as that of New England. Jim and Cindy transformed
their Cape Cod memories into a livable, modern design. The plymouth
gray exterior, along with white trim, happily harks back to
summers in Nantucket where Cindy grew up. "The way the
kitchen is designed, I can stand by the island and see the kids
playing in the yard," she says. When the family entertains,
the floor plan's circular flow helps concentrate activity in
the kitchen without creating bottlenecks. "It's got a beachy
type of feel,"says Jim. "It's a very comfortable home.
On weekends I feel like I'm on vacation."
