Once upon a time, everything was simpler. Children were taught reading, writing, and 'rithmetic. And nearly everyone, from first grade on up, attended classes in the same building. Times changed and many old-time schoolhouses were left without students and without function. Having outlived its usefulness this old schoolhouse was virtually abandoned and left to the disciplines of weather and decay.

A special effort was made to work with the building's classic features. The design objective was to sensitively restore the old building to create four dramatic townhomes. To take advantage of underutilized volume, the trussed roof framing was reengineered and opened up to create lofts with expansive views and dramatic spaces. The uncontested special feature of the project is the two-story bell tower which now serves as an entry.
